Many customers, especially in the US, are looking for bulbs that are deer and rodent resistant. There are some spring flowering bulbs that are deer resistant and therefore not at risk of being eaten. Important to know: If bulbs are resistant to deer, it is usually because they are poisonous. So be careful if you have children or pets in the house.
The: daffodils, irises, hyacinths, alliums, fritillaries.
Bad news: Tulips are not deer resistant.
Daffodils are resitant to deer! Daffodils (Narcissus) contain the alkaloid lycorine which makes them non-digestible to deer and rodents. Of all the deer-resistant bulbs, daffodils are very popular because they are low in maintanance and naturalize, which means that they hare winter hardy and get more every year.
Fortunately, hyacinths also emit an intensely fragrant biochemical that makes them enjoyable to us while warning the deer to stay away. So yes, hyacinths are deer resistant!
