Daffodils & Narcissus Bulbs: Ring in Spring with Joyful Blooms!
With their vibrant colors and cheerful forms, narcissus – widely known as daffodils or Easter daffodils – truly usher in spring with bells and trumpets. Alongside tulips, daffodils are among the most beloved and recognizable spring flowers, gracing millions of gardens with their charm. Botanically, they belong to the genus Narcissus from the Amaryllis family (Amaryllidaceae).
The daffodil's significance primarily lies in its symbolic value as a harbinger of spring. Daffodils symbolize new beginnings, hope, and joy – perfectly fitting their role as one of the first spring bloomers. They signify nature's awakening after winter, bringing color and optimism into daily life. In many cultures, daffodils are also a sign of good fortune and fresh starts.

Time to Plant Daffodils
Daffodil bulbs can be ordered from March to December and are ideally planted in fall, before the first frost. The soil temperature should be below 48°F (9°C) but not yet freezing.
Plant bulbs at a depth of about 4 to 6 inches (10–15 cm) in loose, well-drained soil to avoid rot.
Storing Daffodil Bulbs Correctly
If not planted immediately, store the bulbs in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place (50–59°F / 10–15°C), away from sunlight and moisture. Use a mesh bag or cardboard box.
Beautiful Daffodils in the Sunny Garden
Choose a sunny to partly shaded spot with good drainage. With proper planting, enjoy an explosion of color come spring – a highlight in any garden or balcony.
Planting Daffodils in Pots
Great for balconies or porches. Use pots at least 10" (25 cm) deep, with drainage holes. In winter, leave outside or store in a dark, cool spot (around 39°F / 4°C).
Tip: For best results, plant in groups and mix varieties with different bloom times and heights (e.g., lasagna planting).
Enjoying Daffodils During Their Bloom Time
Bloom times vary by type – from February to May. Combine varieties to extend the flowering period across weeks.
Effortless Daffodil Naturalizing
Daffodils multiply naturally over the years and return reliably each spring without extra care.
Uncomplicated Daffodil Care
Daffodils are low-maintenance and hardy. Water during dry spells in bloom, avoid soggy soil, and optionally fertilize with organic bulb food in spring. No winter protection needed.
Cutting Daffodils for the Vase
Let stems stand alone in water for 1–2 hours before mixing with other flowers. Don’t re-cut after combining, to prevent sap damage to other stems.
