It is best to plant the bulbs in the ground from mid-May onwards. Ixias flower from June to August. They are not completely winter-hardy. It is best to cover them well with straw or mulch in case of frost. In a mild winter, a straw cover is also sufficient. Ixias like well-drained soil, which means that water drains well and that the bulbs are not too wet. They do well in sun and semi-shade. These beautiful little flowers are also very nice as cut flowers.
