The Byzantine gladiolus (Gladiolus communis ssp. byzantinus) has fine dark pink or violet coloured flowers and stays relatively low (50 cm). Its fresh colour and beautiful flowers make the gladiolus stand out in a field of flowers. This variety flowers in early summer (may-June) and is hardy, even though it originates in the Mediterranean area. Make sure to give this flower a sunny spot.

Other information

  • First loosen the soil well where the flower bulbs will be planted. Then the soil is easier to work with.
  • Dig a hole and make sure it is 2 to 3 times as deep as the height of the bulbs.
  • For the distance between the bulbs, make sure it is 2 times the diameter of the flower bulbs.
  • Plant the flower bulbs in the hole with the pointed side facing up or with the root base facing down.
  • Cover the bulbs with soil and water them well.
