The Spanish bluebell ‘Excelsior’ (Hyacinthoides hispanica ‘Excelsior’) is a wild hyacinth-like flower that abundantly blooms in May. The Spanish bluebell exists in the colours pink, blue and white. Excelsior is the blue one. The small bell-shaped flowers hang freely on the 20-30 cm long stems. Hyacinthoides will naturalise on their own if they are planted in a sunny spot on the perimeter of the garden. This variety used to be part of the Scilla Campanulata family – the larger size varieties of scilla.

Other information

  • First loosen the soil well where the flower bulbs will be planted. Then the soil is easier to work with.
  • Dig a hole and make sure it is 2 to 3 times as deep as the height of the bulbs.
  • For the distance between the bulbs, make sure it is 2 times the diameter of the flower bulbs.
  • Plant the flower bulbs in the hole with the pointed side facing up or with the root base facing down.
  • Cover the bulbs with soil and water them well.
