The impressive yellow crown - Imperial or Kaiser’s crown (Fritillaria imperialis ‘Lutea’) looks like a real crown on your garden! It has one, giant sturdy stem. On top of it are hanging several, big bell-shaped flowers with a big green ‘crown’. This variety stands tall and strong, overseeing its empire of other bulbous plants and field flowers. The sturdy stem of the Fritillaria Rubra grows up to 90-120 cm tall. It deserves a title that is worthy of a monarch, growing in a sunny spot with rich soil. This winter-sturdy Kaiser’s crown is the big cousin of the much smaller type – the snake’s head (Fritillaria meleagris) and is much loved by garden lovers. QFB Gardening does not only offer the Lutea (lat. Luteus = yellow), but also the ‘Rubra’ (lat. Ruber = red) and the ‘Aurora’ (orange-red).

  • First loosen the soil well where the flower bulbs will be planted. Then the soil is easier to work with.
  • Dig a hole and make sure it is 2 to 3 times as deep as the height of the fritillaria bulbs.
  • For the distance between the bulbs, make sure it is 2 times the diameter of the bulbs.
  • Plant the flower bulbs in the hole with the pointed side facing up or with the root base facing down.
  • Cover the fritillaria bulbs with soil and water them well.
